Playing outside is more than just fun, it is a major boost for growing minds and bodies. Time spent in green spaces, whether it is at a park or beach, can help kids feel calmer, improve focus, and build confidence all while letting their imaginations run wild.

Outdoor learning builds on these benefits by taking education beyond the traditional classroom and into nature. Through hands-on experiential learning, kids directly engage with their surroundings to explore, discover and deepen their understanding of new concepts – making learning more memorable and meaningful.

Getting kids outdoors this summer can be as easy as turning nature into an adventure! Try a nature scavenger hunt where kids can search for leaves, flowers, bugs and other outdoor treasures. Our nature hikes are perfect for discovering native plants, birds and insects. Kids are encouraged to bring along a journal to sketch any observations they made. Along the way, they can practice simple navigation skills using a compass or trail markers as well as using a map. During the hike kids can also learn about different animal tracks they see on the trail. Introducing these concepts to kids will familiarize them with biology and ecosystems. Join us this summer at the Jones Beach Energy and Nature Center for our Kids Club and Adventure Academy programs which focus on outdoor play and learning. Whether it is a hike or a hands-on activity, kids will have a blast at the beach and on our trails!
