As a Masters student at the University of Miami, Marissa began working in shark research and education while completing her thesis. She assisted with field skills courses, lectures, gear maintenance, scientific work-ups on sharks and rays, and more. This talk will take you through the basics of what makes a shark a shark, how we collect data from them, and why they are important. Make sure you join us for this jaw-some lecture!

Marissa Debonis, M.P.S
Marissa was born and raised on Long Island and enjoys spending time exploring the outdoors. She received a Masters of Professional Science from University of Miami in Marine Ecosystems and Society, where she studied public perceptions of marine environments. She has been involved in shark research and education and outdoor program development. Marissa is passionate about connecting people to the natural world and encouraging young environmental stewards.
